ampoule filling machine with flame sealing

Product Description
Product Overview

This sterile production ampoule filling machine is purpose-built for 1–2ml ampoules, the most common sizes for vaccines, anaesthetics and cardiovascular injections. Its compact frame fits inside a laminar flow hood or isolator, and the automatic filling and flame sealing stations are arranged to minimize the footprint inside the aseptic zone. Small-format ampoules demand high precision because a 0.05ml error on a 1ml fill is a 5% deviation, far above the acceptable limit.

Problem

Producers of 1–2ml ampoules often use lines designed for larger formats, which brings two problems: filling accuracy suffers because a 20ml-rated piston cannot meter 1ml doses precisely, and the machine footprint is too large to fit inside a compact isolator. Oversized equipment also raises the cost of the cleanroom shell, since every square meter of ISO 5 space is expensive to build and maintain.

Cause

Large-format filling pumps use piston diameters matched to big volumes; at 1ml doses, the piston stroke becomes extremely short, magnifying mechanical backlash and dwell-time errors. Meanwhile the sealing burner pitch and star wheel pocket size on general-purpose machines are optimized for 5–10ml ampoules, so 1–2ml ampoules wobble during transfer and the flame position is less stable, producing eccentric seals.

Solution

This machine uses small-bore ceramic piston pumps with a long-stroke geometry specifically matched to 1–2ml fills, holding accuracy at ±0.3%. The star wheel pockets and burner nozzles are sized for 1–2ml ampoule geometry, and a micro-flame sealing head with gas/air pre-mix delivers a concentrated flame that fuses the thin neck cleanly. The total footprint is 2,600 * 1,400 mm, small enough for single-operator isolator installations.

Key Features
  • ±0.3% accuracy at 1ml: small-bore servo pistons eliminate the backlash problem of large-format pumps
  • Compact 2,600 * 1,400 mm footprint: fits inside laminar flow hoods and single-sided isolators
  • Micro-flame sealing head: concentrated pre-mixed flame for thin-neck 1–2ml ampoules
  • ISO 5 compatible: all drive components sealed below the table, smooth surfaces for VHP cleaning
  • Automatic ampoule feeding: vibration bowl or magazine feeder reduces operator contact with sterile glass
  • Batch recipe storage: validated parameters for each product recall instantly on the HMI

Applications

This model is designed for vaccines, anaesthetics, analgesics, cardiac stimulants and other high-value small-dose injections where dose accuracy is a critical quality attribute. The compact size makes it the standard choice for isolator-based aseptic filling lines in biotech companies, where the machine is installed inside a barrier system and operated through glove ports.

It also suits veterinary vaccine plants producing 1–2ml single-dose ampoules at medium volume, and R&D-to-clinical manufacturing facilities that need a validated small-format line.

Selection Guide

Choose this machine only if your portfolio is concentrated in 1–2ml; broader size ranges are better served by the 1–20ml universal model. Second, decide between vibration-bowl feeding and magazine feeding: bowls suit round ampoules at high speed, magazines suit ampoules with printed codes that must keep orientation. Third, specify whether the machine will live inside an isolator, because we then provide a split-body version with the drive section outside the barrier for easier maintenance. Finally, confirm your sealing gas availability, as micro-flame sealing consumes roughly 0.8 m³/h of gas.

FAQ

Q: Why is filling accuracy better on this machine than on a general-purpose line?

The pump bore is matched to 1–2ml volumes, so the piston travels a longer, more controllable stroke. Combined with servo drive and individual head calibration, this keeps deviation within ±0.3%, compared with ±1–2% typical of oversized pumps on small fills.

Q: Can the machine be installed inside an isolator?

Yes. We offer a split-body configuration where the filling and sealing heads are inside the isolator and the drive system sits outside, separated by a stainless bulkhead plate. This simplifies maintenance and reduces VHP exposure of sensitive components.

Q: What is the typical rejection rate for 1ml ampoules?

With calibrated pumps and stable ampoule supply, the rejection rate is normally below 0.5%, mainly from sealing defects. In-line check-weighing with servo rejection brings this down further by catching underfills before sealing.

Q: Can it handle amber glass ampoules?

Yes, amber glass is fully supported. The photoelectric sensors for ampoule detection are selected for low light transmission, and the sealing flame intensity is automatically adjusted for amber glass wall thickness.

Packaging & Quality Assurance

Every machine is test-run with water and dummy ampoules for 72 hours before packing, and a sealed calibration report is shipped with the unit. The machine is wrapped in anti-rust film and secured in an export-grade wooden case with foam inserts, suitable for sea or air freight. We supply CE, GMP and ISO 9001 documentation, a 12-month warranty on parts, and lifetime remote technical support. On-site installation, operator training and IQ/OQ/PQ validation assistance are available on request.
